Overtime Calculator

Estimate regular pay, overtime pay, and total gross earnings using the hours and multiplier that apply to you. No tax calculation is included.

1.5 is time-and-a-half; 2 is double time.

Results are estimates and do not constitute payroll, tax or legal advice. Overtime rules vary by employer and jurisdiction.

How overtime pay is calculated

This calculator keeps regular and overtime hours separate. It multiplies regular hours by the base rate, then applies your chosen multiplier only to overtime hours.

Overtime pay formula

Regular pay = regular hours × hourly rate

Overtime rate = hourly rate × multiplier

Overtime pay = overtime hours × overtime rate

Gross pay = regular pay + overtime pay

Overtime calculation example

At $20 per hour, 40 regular hours produce $800. Five overtime hours at 1.5× use a $30 overtime rate and produce $150. Estimated gross pay is $950 before taxes and deductions.

What this estimate does not include

The calculator does not determine legal eligibility, choose an overtime threshold, calculate taxes, or account for bonuses and blended rates. Use the hours and multiplier supplied by your employer or applicable rules.
