Divide minutes by 60, then add any whole hours. For 7 hours 45 minutes, 45 ÷ 60 is 0.75, so the result is 7.75 decimal hours.

Why decimal hours are used

Thirty minutes is 0.50 decimal hours because 30 divided by 60 equals 0.5.
Is 8:30 the same as 8.30 hours?
No. 8:30 means 8 hours 30 minutes, which is 8.50 decimal hours. A decimal value of 8.30 hours equals 8 hours 18 minutes.
Should I round each day before totaling a week?
For ordinary arithmetic, total the exact minutes first and round only the final display. Follow an applicable payroll policy if it requires a different method.
