How to add and subtract hours
Enter each duration as hours and minutes, then choose whether the row should be added to or subtracted from the running total. The calculator converts every row to minutes, applies its sign, adds the rows, and converts the final total back to a readable duration.
Total minutes = added duration minutes − subtracted duration minutes

Frequently asked questions
Can the total be negative?
Yes. If the subtracted durations are larger than the added durations, the result is shown with a minus sign.
How are decimal hours calculated?
Total minutes are divided by 60. For example, 15 minutes is 0.25 hour and 45 minutes is 0.75 hour.
Can I total more than 24 hours?
Yes. Durations do not wrap at midnight, so a multi-day total such as 27 hours 30 minutes remains 27 hours 30 minutes.
