How to total time clock entries

Add each clock-in and clock-out period for the day. The calculator finds each period's elapsed time, totals the periods, then subtracts the optional unpaid break once.

Split-shift example

A morning period from 9:00 AM to 12:30 PM is 3 hours 30 minutes. An afternoon period from 1:15 PM to 5:45 PM is 4 hours 30 minutes. Together they total 8 hours.

Overnight and break handling

When a clock-out is earlier than its clock-in, the period is treated as ending the next day. An unpaid break cannot be longer than the combined clocked time.

Frequently asked questions

Should lunch be a separate clock period?

If you clocked out and back in for lunch, use two periods. If you only need to deduct a fixed unpaid lunch, enter it in the break field.

How do I total an entire week?

Use the time card calculator for daily rows, weekly totals, overtime, and estimated pay.
